The issue with Matrix organizations, is that they rely heavily on communication skills. Embracing Matrix organisation often means coping with a high degre of transparency and cooperation that traditional structures are not really ready for.

Usual vertical organisation includes power and responsibilities separation, which often translates into information retention in order to maintain position and status quo. This results in resistant power structures, unfit for the level of communication required for collaboration and innovation.

So before you go into The Matrix, think about how tranparent you are, how collaborative you are, and how your structure supports efficient communication. Are you ready to plug-in?
